Summer Cocktail: How to make a Pina Colada
Pina Colada is one of my favourite cocktails! The drink originally comes from Puerto Rico. There are many different stories about how Pina Colada actually came to life and who first invented it, but they are all unanimous when it comes to the birthplace of Pina Colada – Puerto Rico of course. That´s why it has been a national drink of Puerto Rico since 1978. The National Pina Colada Day is celebrated on 10th of July. The drink gained wider popularity in 1979 after Rupert Holmes released his song „Escape (The Pina Colada Song)“.
There are also many recipes of how to make a pina colada, but the one that the friends of Jose L. Diaz de Villegas, the author of the book „Puerto Rico: Grand Cuisine of the Caribbean“, tell in his book to be the original recipe, is following:
Pour 3 oances of coconut cream (tip: Coco Lopez is the best, but any will do)
6 oances of pineapple juice
1 and a half oances of white rum (tip: Malibu Rum, but any is good)
Put it in a blender or shaker with crushed ice and blend it until smooth.

Ta daam.....there you have made your very own Pina Colada! Pour it into a glass, garnish as you like, lay down on a sofa, imagine you are on a tropical island (unless you really are there :D) and enjoy! :)
